‘With this ring I thee wed …for7 years’
She didn’t let her skirt blow up over her head, but a Bavarian politician’s
controversial take has turned heads in the predominantly Catholic German state.
Gabriele Pauli, who is running for the leadership of Bavaria’s conservative
Christian Social Union party, suggested this week that marriages should last just
 seven years.

During the launch of her campaign manifesto in Munich on Wednesday, the
twice-divorced Pauli proposed the seven-year limit, with couples being given the
option of renewing their commitment to each other or allowing their union to
 dissolve automatically.

“The basic approach is wrong,”Pauli told reporters. “Many marriages last just
because people believe they are safe.
“My suggestion is that marriages expire after seven years.”
Pauli’s call for finite nuptials has irked a number of her conservative colleagues, as
well as a number of Catholic bishops who called for her resignation.

If you are not ready to spend the rest of your life with your significant other-don’t
marry them. Marriage is forever. If more people put as much thought into
choosing their spouses as they do deciding which car to lease/buy - divorces and
separations would probably go down significantly・

I think it’s a good idea. Since many couples break up in the first 7 years it makes
sense to create this law. They can try it in a small region and see if it works, if it
doesn’t than they can always cancel it, but if it does it will be a break through.
This gives an advantage to people who are getting married because they have
time periods which they know their marriage will live by. If the feelings die than
they can have a divorce a lot easier.
It would solve a lot of problems and make a lot of lives easier. The law is unheard
of so it also creates a lot of excitement in the religion and that’s what it’s all
 about…
