サムライ小ばなし　その2

どうも、Fumiです。
先週は文化の日に、イベント｢英語 de ハイキング｣を開催致しましたが、
ご参加いただいた方、お疲れ様でした。そして、ご協力有難うございました。
日本文化を発信することが、イベントのテーマの1つでしたが、
私も日頃仕事で、外国から来られる観光客の方とお話をすると、
彼らは単に日本の美術品の美しさに惹かれるだけでなく、そのデザインの
歴史的背景や理由などを知りたがることが多いです。
特に日本のサムライが好んだデザインや慣習などに興味を持たれます。
例えば・・・

1.Dragonfly(とんぼ)
It was popular to use this design for the Samurai items.
Because a dragonfly can go ahead and never turn backward.
When the Samurai won a battle, they also just go ahead.
They liked this design very much.
2.Rabbit(うさぎ)
A rabbit can’t run so fast on the flat ground, but can climb
the mountain vigorously because they have the strong feet.
When the Samurai attacked a castle of the enemy on the mountain,
he needed the tough feet like a rabit.
3.Tanto(短刀)
The Tanto is a short sword. It is a decoration purpose almost,
because it is too short for an actual fighting. For example,
when a bridegroom of the Samurai attended a wedding ceremony,
he carried a Tanto at his waist. In some case, he used a Tanto
to fight with his wife….
最後のは私が良く使うjokeですが、結構外国人観光客にはウケますね。中には、
｢そんな短い刀じゃ、オレの女房には勝てねぇ｣と深刻な顔で応じる方もいました。
どこまでがjokeなんだか・・・。
これからもFESSを通して、楽しい日本文化の発信の仕方を学んでいこうと思います。
